5 Ways To Glow This Winter

Honey, You’re Glowing!

It’s that time of the year where your skin dries faster than quick dry nail polish, getting up in the morning appears impossible and your fingers experience frost bite!

But the worst part about the cold weather is that many of us enter “hibernation mode”, whats hibernation mode you say? Packing on layers of clothes, eating warm comfort food and spending longer hours in bed! But what also come with this, is creating short cuts with our skin regime.

Unfortunately the winter weather doesn’t provide many benefits to your skin. The low humidity creates a dry air that strips moisture from the skin. To top this of hot showers and electric heaters further rob the skin from moisture.

But here are 5 easy ways to make your skin glow this winter!

1. Review Your Face Mask

The face mask you use in the summer may not necessary give your skin the same benefits in the winter. Face masks that contain clay and charcoal tend to strip impurities from the skin but can also leave it feeling extra dry in the winter. Consider using masks that will add moisture to your face such as aloe vera, honey and avocado.

2. Moisturisers / Oils

Moisturising from head to toe is imperative, I know the drop in temperature after leaving the shower can really tempt you to pop some clothes on and start your day, but even the friction from the clothes can cause your skin to become irritated and extra dry . Finding a moisturiser that contains one of the following oils can be very beneficial.

  • Argon Oil
  • Avocado Oil
  • Coconut Oil
  • Jojoba Oil
  • Olive Oil
  • Rose hip Oil
  • Safflower Oil
  • Tamanu Oil

Throughout the year especially in the winter season using a night moisturiser will guarantee your skin feeling soft and fresh by the morning. I use Superdrug Vitamin E Night Cream. (Link: Superdrug Vitamin E – Night Cream )

3. Shower In Lukewarm Water

I know it can be tempting to get home from a cold journey and shower in hot volcanic water. But showering in such temperatures strips your skin from natural oils leaving it extra dry and irritated. Read more on hot showers in my previous blog

4. Exfoliating

In the winter months, we tend to forget to exfoliate, and when we do we often leave out our feet and hands. Moisture tends to struggle to reach these parts when the dead skin becomes too coated. But by exfoliating and using a foot mask can ensure your hands and feet look crack free and fresh.

5. Diet

The winter months will have you in doors and chucking down extra calories. Warm comfort food is likely to become your best friend, but eating clean and healthy is essential, as the diet you eat reflects on your skin.  This month is “Veganuary” or “Detox January”, so join the ride and give your pores a chance to breath.

PS – Don’t forget to wear SPF!

  1. I always use the skin of an avocado as a face mask. Try it! I have hyper-sensitive skin and so I can only use certain products. I love this post and the pictures too.

  2. I love this post! I always use a charcoal mask when my skin is in a bad way, but I always follow it with a hydrating mask and Mario Badescu’s rosewater spray to make sure my skin’s still moisturised. I definitely need to be eating cleaner, too!

  3. Peace.. Love this cause I noticed when using thicker based oil my skin feels soft and so lovely, cause winter clothing with its weight and heaviness on the skin does a lot. In winter I use ghana shea butter summer I change it to something lighter.
So moving with the changes makes senses and keeps the skin healthy

The Hot shower made me laugh. Sis I love them hot showers but intereting to know they can add to less moisture.

    Amazing 🤗

  4. Oops! It looks like I’m guilty of all of the above! Thanks so much for the tips on facemasks and oils, I feel like I really need a change of skincare x
